“The adolescent must never be treated as a child, for that is a stage of life that [has been] surpassed.”
Dr. Maria Montessori
High school, but different.
At RMHS, every student is known, supported, and challenged. Our approach is grounded in research and built to help students develop autonomy, resilience, and confidence. The philosophy of Montessori education sets up students for success, and we’re applying that methodology at the high school level. Want to come see how?
Community-Based Learning
Within River Montessori’s joy-filled academic environment, students have opportunities to engage in meaningful, community-based learning that prepares them for “what’s next” in life, whether that is college, trade school, or something else. Students can get a peek into how our community runs on a normal day by shadowing a current RMHS student.
A Unique Micro-School Model
The way we do things isn’t standard - yet. We believe that smaller, intentional, holistic schools work best for students and educators. RMHS is unique, but we know the benefits that come with reimagining the default of our educational system. Below, you can find a few ways to help support and sustain our school.
In Fall 2020, River Montessori High School (RMHS) – a first of its kind replicable, mixed-income, Montessori high school – opened its doors in South Bend, Indiana.
Within River Montessori’s joy-filled academic environment where students are accepted and supported for who they are, parents can be confident that their student will earn an Indiana Core 40 aligned diploma and have opportunities to engage in meaningful, community-based learning that prepares them for “what’s next” in life, whether that is college, trade school, or something else.
Using an innovative “hybrid 9th” curricular design, students coming to RMHS from a non-Montessori background will receive a year-long introduction to self-directed learning.
